Prof. Dr. Dieter SegertProf. Dr. Dieter Segert, was born in 1952. In 1989 Prof. Dr. Segert was one of the initiators of political science studies in former East Germany, and he was a professor at Berlin’s Humboldt University from 1989-1998. He has also held guest professorships at the Institute for International Studies at Prague’s University and at the Cultural Sciences Faculty at the University of Frankfurt/Oder. From 2002-2005, Prof. Dr. Segert worked as a lecturer at the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) in Bonn. Starting in February of 2005, he joined the faculty at Vienna University’s Social Sciences Department as Professor for Transformation Processes in Middle, East and Southeast Europe. His areas of expertise include comparisons of the transforming political processes in eastern Europe, the political history and the inheritance left by state-supported socialism in Europe, the creation and development of political parties in eastern Europe, EU expansion and EU reform.
