Michal HvoreckýMichal Hvorecký, a freelance author and lecturer from Bratislava, was born in 1976. Mr. Hvorecký's work is representative of that propagated by a young generation of authors -- including Burroughs, Ballard and Ellis – that has gained fame for bringing a new self-confidence to language. His prose work “Hunters and Gatherers” became a bestseller in Slovakia. The huge amount of positive media attention the book received has led to the upcoming release of translations. Mr. Hvorecký's debut volume of short stories “The Strong Feeling of Cleanliness” was published in 1998. Translations from that work have so far appeared in literary magazines in Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and England. Michael Hvorecký has also translated other authors’ work into his native Slovakian, including Jack Womack’s novel “Ambient”. His third book, a novel entitled “The Last Hit”, was published in 2003. His novel “Plush” became a hit in whole Europe and was published in German translation („City - der unwahrscheinlichste aller Orte“). In spring 2009 appears his new novel „ESKORTA“ (Klett-Cotta Publishing Company). |
